What's new?

Well done to our athletics team who have trained very hard this year. We had a fantastic day on the finals day for the Fingal Athletics league in Santry. We also had a great day on Monday the 26th of May at the Cumann na mBunscol Athletics field competitions in Morton Stadium, Santry. Despite the rain everyone did really well, especially Erika from Sharon's 5th Class who won gold in the 600m and Mike from Dónal's 6th Class who won silver in the 600m. We hope to have a great day on Wednesday the 4th June at the track day where we will be taking part in sprints and relays.

We are very proud to have an amazing athletics team in our school with lots of very talented children who are dedicated to their training and always try their best. The most important part of athletics is having fun and trying your best. This year our school athletics team is trained by Renata, Paul, Lorraine, Laura .M, Siobhán and Ruth. Athletics training takes place every Tuesday from 2.10-3.00 in our yard. The team is made up of boys and girls from 3rd to 6thclass. We usually have 3 boys and 3 girls from each class on our team; a total of 48 children.

Every year our athletics team take part in the Fingal Athletics League. This is long distance running. There are usually about 5 competitions throughout the school year. The competitions take place in Porterstown Park and the children compete with athletes from other schools in Dublin 15. The judges give each school points based on the place their athletes come in each race. The points are added up on the very last competition day in Morton Stadium, Santry and a plaque is given to the school with the most points. Our school won the plaque in 2011 for the girls team.

We also take part in the Cumann na mBunscol Athletics competitions in May and June. There are usually 2 competition days; one for track events like sprint and relay and the other for field events like long jump, high jump, hurdles, shot putt, javelin etc. These are individual races and the children have to get through heats before they go on to finals to win medals or trophies.
